Using your community to take local ideas global can help show your students how connected people on this planet are and how they are dealing with the same issues. These organizations also can show students how they can take action on issues they feel passionately about. Some organizations near me include:

Rotary International

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. Rotary offers us the opportunity to connect to international communities, work on global projects and for those interested: study abroad opportunities for students.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Located at the ocean's edge on historic Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is your window to marine life. Amazing resources are available not only on site and on their web page, but also through their professional trainings. They make tons of resources available to teachers and conduct summits for students to take part in to share what they are learning. They believe in promoting students passions.

NOAA

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is an American scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce that focuses on the conditions of the oceans, major waterways, and the atmosphere. From electronic nautical charts, to weather data, and fisheries information, NOAA offers up to date data on our oceans and atmospheric conditions. Great for any teacher trying to make global connections to issues facing our world.

California Academy of Sciences

The California Academy of Sciences is a science museum—and scientific and educational institution—located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Offers wonderful professional development opportunities through trainings and talks. The CalAcademy brings local and global issues to their visitors attention. Allows for teachers to connect with professionals to get data and information on the specific area for use in their classroom.

Marine Science Institute

The Marine Science Institute provides engaging and interactive hands-on adventures with San Francisco Bay Area marine life. Offers great hands on activities for students and resources for teachers. Tries to connect students with the health of the SF Bay and Pacific Ocean.

Sustainable Lafayette

Sustainable Lafayette is a grassroots non-profit that is working to transform Lafayette into a highly sustainable community that enhances the quality of life. A wonderful local resource for our school. Has local talks, festivals, celebrations and ideas to create a more sustainable area.
