Teacher Resources:

Globalizing your lessons and curriculum can be easier than you think! There are so many resources to choose from to help meet the four standards of Global Education:

   1. Investigate the world

   2. Recognize others perspectives

   3. Communicate with diverse audiences

   4. Take action

The Asia Society's overview is a great place for educators to start.

Currently, within our school we have access to all open sources, free and public videoconferencing, streaming, photo sharing sites, video sharing sites, document sharing sites, podcasts, blogs, wikis, social networking sites.

Between our tablets, desktops and Chromebooks, and in the middle schoolers own personal laptop for class we are well prepared to globalize all classrooms.

How global is your lesson, classroom or school? Use the following checklists to determine where you fall:

Oxfam Guide to Global Citizenship (subject specific ideas, lesson and assessment tools for each lessons) These guides help create foundations of great global citizenship. They outline how to take a global approach to teaching and learning, as well as practical guidance for any teacher to embed into their lessons.

Asia Society (page 70 for a succinct checklist) This is not only a great checklist, but the whole pdf is full of amazing resources and examples. It outlines each of the global education standards, and is a great resource for any new teacher trying to start globalizing their classroom.

The American Forum for Global Education (checklist for teachers and administrators)  Practical tool for a whole school; teachers, curriculum developers, administrators, board members and state education officials. Allows schools to see where there are gaps. **This checklist I recommend to not only my school to understand where their global competence stands, but to other schools that want to implement a global education focus. It is a great resource for everyone involved at a school.

Some of my favorite technology resources that can get you get comfortable with the global education standards and start teaching globally today!

1. National Geographic Education

Resources. This is a great digital resource for teachers to incorporate the first standard: investigating our world.

2. Skype a Scientist As a science teacher, I love this! This resource can help bring in both standards: investigating our world and communicating with diverse audiences.

3. Epals (Electronic pen pals so your students can connect to others in our country and all over the world) This resource can help not only work on the communicating with diverse audiences standard, but can also help understand other peoples perspectives.

4. Global Oneness Project (Stories from around the world) This resource can help your students recognize and understand other peoples perspectives.

5. UN Sustainability Goals are a great way to get your students to find a passion and a way to take action!
