Global Education:

Global education is teaching with the four global competencies as defined by the Asia Society. These include having students:  Investigate the World, Recognize Perspectives, Communicate Ideas, and Take Action.

This site, my Global Education Guide, is to not only share my Senegal Travel experience, but to also share what I have learned through my IREX fellowship with other teachers interested in Globalizing their classroom.

So why global education? Start by checking out my video.

Global Education is important for our students for many reasons:

“In a 21st century world where jobs can be shipped wherever there’s an Internet connection … a child born in Dallas is now competing with a child in New Delhi.”

— President Barack Obama

There will soon be 8 billion people on this planet and as our world becomes more interconnected there is a need for people who can:

  • Understand the world through investigation

  • Discuss complex ideas

  • Understand multiple perspectives to solve problems

  • Be able to communicate with others

  • And take action when necessary

So... what will you find on my Global Education Guide?

Each tab has a bunch of resources for both my school community and other teachers looking to globalize their classroom.

Teach: Help your students become Global Citizens. The tools on this page will give you ideas on how to bring the world into your classroom. Through local and international organizations, professional development opportunities and example lessons, you can see how to make local connections global.

Study: This page is meant to help teachers get started or further their Global Education skills. From teacher and school-wide checklists and foundational material to resources teachers can use immediately to start making connections outside their own classroom.

Travel BLOG:  IREX/TGC is a year long journey which includes a educational/cultural experience. My experience was in Senegal, Africa. Click on the travel blog learn about my experience and to see how I saw happiness in this beautiful country!
